Learning how to paint toenails is not difficult. When done correctly, toes can be pleasing to both the onlooker and the owner. You can achieve nice looking toes at home, with no expensive salon appointment necessary. Using a few basic items you are likely to already own, the job will be quick and painless.
First, complete a simple pedicure. Preparation is an important step for a nice polish job. This need not be an extreme process; just be sure the toenails are clean and dry. If the nail needs trimming it is recommended to cut straight across, not rounded, or else a quick file may be enough to smooth jagged edges. In order to provide a nice open area to polish, pushing the cuticle back works well, especially for those pinky toes.
Next get your supplies: base coat, nail polish, cotton swabs, polish remover and toe separators. The toe separators are optional depending on your activity level. Wipe the toenail with remover to take away excess oils produced naturally or from lotion. Insert the toe separators if it is hard to sit still or if you need help keeping your toes apart. Now apply the base coat to give the polish a nice finish to adhere to. Use quick, smooth strokes from cuticle
to edge and cover the nail. If possible, use a three stroke application, outer edges first, then center. Allow to dry for three to five minutes and apply a second coat for optimum color intensity. Because toenails aren’t as likely to get chipped as fingernails, it is not necessary to use top coat. However, if you have the time and desire a glossy, shiny appearance, then go for the top coat. The last and most important step is allowing the layered polish to dry thoroughly. If need be, use a little polish remover on a swab to clean any smudges.
With a little practice you will soon learn how to paint toe nails like an expert. For polish changes use acetone-free polish remover which protects toenails from over drying. Experiment a little and keep in mind the season for color choice. For a perfect summer look, try a French pedicure; toenails painted with a soft light pink polish and shy white tip create an elegant look to give you pretty feet.
