The use of double curtain rods in homes is currently a popular window style dressing which provides a two-dimensional effect. Normally, the under layer of a double curtain consists of a thin and light material thereby allowing soft and subdued light in the room. Meanwhile, its top layer is relatively thicker and functions as a decorative fabric. Overall, it gives the impression of elegance. It also allows different hanging styles as based on your personal preference or artistic tastes. Believe it or not, you do not need to hire a professional when installing a double curtain rod as you can do the process yourself and it will take about twenty minutes to complete.
Basically, all you need is a pencil, a tape measure, one-inch screws, a screw driver, mounting brackets, two curtain rods and four endcaps and two curtain sets.
First things first, know where you plan to place the brackets. Be aware that the higher the brackets are positioned, the spacious your room will be. However, the standard measurement is to install them at least four inches atop the frame of the window. Also, they must similarly be two to three inches from the side of the window frame to allow the rods to hang a bit on the edges. Doing so helps create an illusion that the window is wider than it actually is.
Next is to draw horizontal lines to the place you want to install the brackets. Make sure to keep the brackets aligned by holding the first bracket upwards and marking on the wall the area where the screw holes are to appear. Then, in order to mount the brackets, you can use drywall screws or wall anchors. You can screw these on the screw marks on the wall. Doing so increases the strength of the installation.
The final step is to hang your curtains. Make sure to place the curtains onto the rod nearest the wall. Remember that the thickness of rods vary and the thin ones should be placed at the back as they usually carry the lighter drapes. Do make sure to place end caps onto the rods.
All in all, it is your choice to place added touches of style or color on the curtains. Be aware that doing so adds special value to the overall appearance of your home.
