A little bit of know how, some basic materials, and a few tools is all it takes to make a simple round kitchen table. A table that is five feet in diameter will seat between six and eight people comfortably. Building such a table is a relatively simple process. Wooden kitchen tables are fairly expensive when bought in the store, so building one yourself can save you quite a bit of money as well.
To start you will need two four foot 4x4s, two six foot 2x4s, and a four foot square piece of 3/4 inch thick plywood. You will also want to have a three foot length of string, a keyhole saw, a circular saw, a sander, either wood stain or pain, penny nails, 1 1/2 inch nails, and, of course, a hammer.
Use the circular saw to cut the 4x4s to make four 4 foot legs for the table. Next, cut four frame sections from the 2x4s, each of them two feet and five inches in length.
To create a round piece from the five foot square piece of plywood, find the exact center of the plywood using your tape measure. Tap a nail into the center of the piece and tie the string to the nail. Extend the string to the center of one of the edges of the plywood, and tie a pencil to it. Use this to draw a circle and cut along this line using the keyhole saw. Use the sander to remove any rough edges.
Stand the legs up in a three foot square. Fasten the frame pieces to the top of the legs using penny nails. Place the table top on the legs, center it, and hammer 1 1/2 inch nails through the top to fasten it to the frame pieces at four inch intervals. Finally, hammer two 1 1/2 inch nails through the top of the table into each leg.
Once you stain or paint the table, you are done, and you will have wood round kitchen table set for years to come.
