Swimming Pools

There are an increasingly large number of options for those who are looking to enhance their pool area with swimming pool lights. These lights are a great addition for those looking to spruce up their pool landscaping. Before purchasing any lighting, pool owners should consider all the options they now have:

More and more pool owners are replacing their standard incandescent lights with LED lights. While they cost a little more upfront, but these lights are cheaper to operate in the long run and use far less energy, making them an enviro-friendly option. LED bulbs will typically last 30 thousand hours compared to 5 thousand hours from incandescent lights.

Fiber-optic lights are another modern option that is very popular. Fiber optics are smaller more intricate lighting surfaces that have been used to create starry effects on pool floors and around pool rims. They are not nearly as bright as other lighting options however and require several strands to create sufficient light for nighttime safety. The fiber optic cables themselves do not carry electricity, making it a very safe option for water use.

Floating lights are perhaps the easiest and cheapest option for those looking to add light to a pool at night quickly. Most run on rechargeable batteries and simply float on the surface of the water projecting light downward and outward. Some companies even offer solar versions of floating lights that are “greener”, however offer less light. Solar lights are usually not as bright as other lights, and after a spell of cloudy weather they will not shine for very long. However constant improvements are being made and you should research to see if solar power can meet your lighting needs.

Traditional pool lights are the ones you have likely seen the most. They are incandescent or halogen bulbs placed inside a pool wall in a sealed case. Most are installed when the pool is built. Changing the bulb can be a hassle and the lighting effect produced is the least impressive, but they are relatively affordable and very common.
