Green

You’ve spent the time and effort to building a beautiful organic garden, and it’s being ravaged by pests.  You don’t want to sacrifice the integrity of your garden by using poisons to save it, so you have two choices; let those greedy pests have their way with your garden, or fight back with organic pest control techniques.

The first, and easiest way to keep larger pests out of your garden is to built a small fence around your garden.  Make sure to bury the wire fence up to six inches underground, do deter burrowers.  The fence should be also be high enough that rabbits won’t be able to casually hop over and make your delicious organic spinach their next dinner.

For deterring bugs, a revolting cocktail of pepper, garlic, and onions will work wonders.  Mince the garlic, chop the onion, add a tablespoon of pepper and a quart organic gardening pest controlof water, mix it all together let it all simmer for up to an hour.  For an additional punch, try adding organic castile soap to the mix after it’s simmered.  Put it all in a glass jar, and throw it in the fridge.  This concoction becomes even more revolting with age, so letting it sit in the fridge for a week or two can really bring out its pest fighting powers.  Simply add a tablespoon of this to a spray bottle filled with water, and spray down your garden with it.  This spray works on unwanted human guests as well.

There are also various plants you can plant in your garden that have  bug-deterring effects.  Some of these include mint, oregano, rue, hoseradish, thyme, and others.  As you know, some plants play very well together, while others do not.  If you want to incorporate this kind of pest control into your organic garden, consult with your gardening store specialist to ensure your plants will all be able to thrive together.

Another obvious option is to simply purchase organic pest control products.  The “green”movement is in full effect.  We’re all becoming more aware of the negative impact some of our living habits have on the Earth.  As a result, an entire market has sprung up around this idea.  This means there are many products on the market that will suit your needs.  There are Earth friendly products, as well as strictly organic, and quite a selection of each.

You’ve gone through the extra effort to make the healthiest possible garden you can, for both you and the Earth.  There is no need to let is succumb to the effects of being ravaged by pests.  You can follow the advice given above to keep your garden lively and free of pests while still maintaining your goal of having a fully organic garden by using organic gardening pest control.
